
Shawn Hymel is an engineer, educator, and lifelong tinkerer who’s passionate about making embedded systems accessible and exciting. With a background in computer and electrical engineering, Shawn has spent over a decade teaching others through hands-on workshops, videos, blogs, and hardware projects. His work focuses on bridging the gap between theory and practice: helping learners apply real firmware and embedded development skills to real-world challenges.
Before launching LearnEmbedded.dev, Shawn created educational content and led community outreach at SparkFun Electronics, worked in both government and industry, and earned his master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech. Whether it’s programming microcontrollers or building IoT devices, Shawn’s goal is to help you gain the confidence and skills to build what matters.
